The Kāpiti Coast, located just north of Wellington, New Zealand, is a haven for cyclists of all levels. Known for its stunning coastal scenery, varied terrain, and well-maintained trails, the region offers numerous opportunities for both recreational and serious cyclists.
For begineers there are two key scenic routes:
1. Te Ara O Whareroa:
This popular shared pathway stretches from Paekākāriki to Raumati South. The 6 km trail is flat and smooth, making it ideal for families and leisurely rides. The path offers beautiful views of the coast, Kāpiti Island, and native bushland. It’s a safe and relaxing ride away from traffic.
2. Kāpiti Coastal Cycle Route:
This route follows the coastline from Paekākāriki to Peka Peka, offering around 40 km of scenic cycling. Cyclists can enjoy beach views, rolling dunes, and charming coastal towns along the way. There are plenty of spots for a picnic or a swim.
For those looking for some mountain biking then the Kāpiti Mountain Bike Club has been developing a network of trails at Whareroa Farm.
Whareroa Farm is located off State Highway 1 at the Mackays Crossing / Queen Elizabeth Park exit. There is ample car parking
